This disclaimer applies to all content on weldcerttest.com and to the testing services provided by Xenogenesis, LLC under the WeldCertTest brand. Please read it carefully.

General Information Only

Not Engineering or Legal Advice All information on this Site — including code references, position coverage tables, process explanations, FAQs, blog posts, and email correspondence — is provided for general informational purposes. It is not engineering advice, legal advice, or a substitute for the controlling project specification, the Engineer of Record, or your QC department.

Welder qualification requirements vary by project, owner, and jurisdiction. A statement that is correct under AWS D1.1 may not be correct for your specific project if that project is governed by a different code, modified by owner specification, or subject to local code amendments. Always verify against your controlling project specification.

Code References

We reference welding standards including AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3, AWS D1.6, AWS D1.7, ASME Section IX, API 1104, and AWWA C206. References to specific clauses (for example, "AWS D1.1 Clause 4.25") describe how those clauses apply to welder qualification in our experience and in standard industry practice.

Code references on this Site are not substitutes for the codes themselves. The most recent published edition of each code is the authoritative source. Codes are revised periodically — clause numbers and content can change between editions. The applicable edition for your project is whichever edition is specified in your project contract or controlling specification. When in doubt, consult the published code or your Engineer of Record.

Welder Performance Qualification Documentation

The Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records we issue are based on the test coupons submitted to us, the information provided by the customer, and the visual inspection and bend test results obtained through our process. The WPQ documents:

The WPQ does not warrant:

Customer-Supplied Information

We rely on the information supplied with each coupon — welder identity, employer name, process used, position welded, base metal type and thickness, and Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) reference. We do not independently verify welder identity, witness the welding, or audit the WPS used. The accuracy of customer-supplied information is the customer's responsibility.

If you submit incorrect information, the WPQ will reflect what was submitted. Correcting a WPQ after issuance may require additional fees or retesting depending on the nature of the correction.

Project-Specific Requirements

Always Check Your Project Specification Some projects require qualifications beyond what the controlling welding code mandates. Owner specifications, structural engineer requirements, government contracts, or specific facility requirements may add to or modify standard qualification requirements. We test to the code requirements unless you communicate additional requirements in advance.

Common examples of project-specific requirements that may apply on top of code:

Communicate project-specific requirements with us before testing so we can confirm we can meet them.

Welder Safety

Welding involves hazards including arc radiation, heat, fumes, electrical shock, and fire. Welders performing test coupons at their own facility are solely responsible for using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), following safe work practices, and complying with applicable OSHA standards. This Site does not provide welding safety training and does not address site-specific safety requirements.

Bend Test Results

Bend testing is performed at an accredited testing laboratory using calibrated equipment in accordance with the applicable code. Bend test results reflect the condition of the test specimens as submitted. We document failures with specimen-level detail, but we are not responsible for the underlying cause of the failure (welder skill, WPS adequacy, base metal condition, etc.) — those factors are within the customer's control.

Third-Party Services & Links

Our Site links to third-party resources including the American Welding Society (aws.org), the International Code Council (iccsafe.org), code purchasing services, and other industry sites. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices. Links are provided for convenience only and do not constitute endorsement.

No Guarantee of Results

We make no guarantee that any specific welder will pass a qualification test. We make no guarantee that any specific test will be accepted by any specific project, inspector, or owner. We make no guarantee of any specific turnaround time beyond the estimates published on this Site. We perform our service with professional care, but the success of any specific test depends on the skill of the welder, the adequacy of the WPS, the condition of the coupon as received, and factors outside our control.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Xenogenesis, LLC, Timothy Dodd, Roger Baldwin, and any contractors or partner laboratories are not liable for damages arising from reliance on information published on this Site, from the issuance of WPQ documentation, or from the use of WPQ documentation by any third party. See our Terms of Service for the complete limitation of liability.

Updates to This Disclaimer

We may update this disclaimer as codes are revised, as our services evolve, or as needed for clarity. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision. The current version is always available at this URL.
