We Test Plates. We Are Not a Welding School.

Every other result you see when searching for welder certification is a training program. WeldCertTest does one thing: your welder welds the coupon at your shop under a qualified WPS, you ship it to us, and we perform AWS CWI visual inspection, accredited bend testing, and issue official Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) documentation. No classes. No courses. Just certified results.

What WeldCertTest Does — and Does Not Do

The single most important thing to understand about this service is the distinction between testing and training. Search results for welder certification are dominated by training programs, vocational schools, and AWS-affiliated learning centers. WeldCertTest is none of those things.

✓ What We Do

  • Accept weld test coupons by mail from anywhere in the US
  • Perform AWS CWI visual inspection per applicable code
  • Conduct accredited bend testing using calibrated equipment
  • Issue official Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records
  • Test to AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWWA, and specialty codes
  • Return results with WPQ documentation your QC department can file
  • Provide a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) with each test if needed

✗ What We Do Not Do

  • Teach welding — we do not offer welding classes or courses
  • Certify welders in any training or educational sense
  • Witness the welding — your welder welds at your facility
  • Operate a testing facility you visit in person
  • Issue AWS membership cards or AWS-branded credentials
  • Provide on-site inspection at your location

How the WeldCertTest / Xenogenesis Arrangement Works

WeldCertTest.com is the customer-facing brand. Xenogenesis, LLC is the testing company. When you submit a quote request, Roger Baldwin coordinates the job details. When your coupon arrives in Alpharetta, Timothy Dodd performs the CWI inspection and oversees the bend testing. The WPQ that comes back to you is issued under Xenogenesis, LLC with Timothy Dodd's CWI credentials documented.

This is a straightforward subcontract arrangement. The credentials are real, the testing is real, and the WPQ documentation holds up to project QC requirements. If your project inspector or owner asks for the CWI's credentials, you have them: AWS CWI #00120381, Timothy Dodd, Xenogenesis LLC, Alpharetta GA.

About WeldCertTest — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about who we are, what we do, and how the testing arrangement works.

Is WeldCertTest a legitimate welder qualification testing service? +
Yes. WeldCertTest is operated by Xenogenesis, LLC, a Georgia limited liability company located at 1825 Lockeway Drive Suite 206, Alpharetta, GA 30004. All welder performance qualification testing is performed by Timothy Dodd, AWS Certified Welding Inspector #00120381 (current through December 2027) and ICC S2 Structural Welding Inspector #8184186. Both credentials are independently verifiable through the American Welding Society (aws.org) and the International Code Council (iccsafe.org).
Who actually inspects the welds at WeldCertTest? +
Every coupon received by WeldCertTest is inspected personally by Timothy Dodd, AWS CWI #00120381. There is no anonymous inspection team — one named, credentialed CWI signs every WPQ issued. Tim is the owner and operator of Xenogenesis, LLC, the testing company that fulfills WeldCertTest work. Visual inspection is performed under AWS QC1; bend testing is performed at an accredited laboratory using calibrated equipment.
Are the CWI credentials at WeldCertTest real and current? +
Yes. Timothy Dodd holds two current, verifiable credentials: AWS Certified Welding Inspector #00120381 (issued by the American Welding Society under AWS QC1, valid through December 1, 2027) and ICC S2 Structural Welding Inspector #8184186 (issued by the International Code Council, valid through October 6, 2026). Both credentials require documented examination, ongoing continuing education, and periodic renewal. Either can be independently verified by contacting the issuing body directly. See the Inspector Credentials section above on this page for full details.
What is Xenogenesis, LLC and how does it relate to WeldCertTest? +
Xenogenesis, LLC is the testing company. WeldCertTest.com is the customer-facing brand. When a customer submits a quote, Roger Baldwin (site owner) coordinates the job. When the coupon arrives in Alpharetta, GA, Timothy Dodd (Xenogenesis, AWS CWI) performs the CWI inspection and oversees the bend testing. The WPQ that comes back to the customer is issued under Xenogenesis, LLC with Timothy Dodd's CWI credentials documented on the record. This is a straightforward subcontract and lead-generation arrangement. The credentials are real, the testing is real, and the WPQ documentation holds up to project QC requirements.
Where is WeldCertTest located? +
The testing location is 1825 Lockeway Drive Suite 206, Alpharetta, GA 30004 — operated by Xenogenesis, LLC. WeldCertTest is a mail-in service: customers ship coupons to this address from anywhere in the United States. Fabricators in Texas, pipeline contractors in Wyoming, structural steel shops in Pennsylvania, shipyards in Louisiana, and operations in every other state use the mail-in service. There is no requirement for the welder or company to be local.
Does WeldCertTest issue AWS Certified Welder cards? +
No. WeldCertTest issues official WPQ (Welder Performance Qualification) records — the code-required documentation that fabrication owners, engineers of record, QC managers, and third-party inspectors verify on welding projects. WeldCertTest does not issue AWS Certified Welder cards, because that is a separate AWS-administered credential (the AWS QC7 program) issued only through Accredited Testing Facilities. The WPQ is what virtually all projects under AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104, AWWA, and other codes actually require — not the AWS card. Read the full WPQ vs AWS Certified Welder breakdown →
Can I visit the WeldCertTest testing facility in Alpharetta? +
WeldCertTest is primarily a mail-in service. Walk-in drop-off of test coupons is possible at the Alpharetta location by prior arrangement, but there is no welding equipment on site — customers do not weld coupons at the facility. AWS D1.1 and the other codes WeldCertTest tests under do not require the CWI to witness the welding itself, so the welder welds the coupon at the customer's facility under an approved WPS and ships it for testing. Call (404) 860-1288 to arrange a drop-off if you prefer.
Who signs the WPQ records issued by WeldCertTest? +
Every WPQ record issued by WeldCertTest is signed personally by Timothy Dodd, AWS CWI #00120381, on behalf of Xenogenesis, LLC. The record documents the welder's identification, date of qualification, welding process, base metal, filler metal, test position, joint design, CWI visual examination results, and accredited bend test results. The CWI signature is the trust signal that project inspectors verify.
What welding codes does WeldCertTest test under? +
WeldCertTest performs welder performance qualification testing under AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code — Steel), ASME Section IX (pressure piping qualification), API 1104 (pipeline welder qualification), AWWA C206 (water works steel pipe), AWS D1.6 (stainless steel structural), AWS D1.3 (sheet steel structural), and AWS D1.7 (structural repair and strengthening). Test positions include 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 3G/4G combined, 5G, and 6G for plate and pipe. Re-certification is also available for welders whose qualifications have lapsed.

Service Area

WeldCertTest accepts coupons by mail from all 50 states. The testing location is Alpharetta, GA — but because AWS D1.1 and the other codes we test under do not require the CWI to witness the welding act itself, there is no requirement for your welder to travel or your company to be local.

Fabricators in Texas, pipeline contractors in Wyoming, structural steel shops in Pennsylvania, and shipyards in Louisiana all use mail-in qualification testing. The coupon gets shipped, tested, and your WPQ documentation is returned. See our shipping instructions and estimated timeframes for specifics.
